Living with her adult daughter was difficult at first for Lisa Dillon.
In August, she welcomed daughter Nicole and her two children into the family home. The arrangement took some getting used to.
“It was a little rocky in the beginning,” Lisa Dillon said. “She was 27 years old, coming back to live at mom-and-dad’s house. But we seem to have found a good, happy medium.”
Now Dillon has been rewarded for her patience. On Friday, the Pendleton resident appeared on NBC’s ‘Today’ show during a segment on Mother’s Day. She was selected for an interview by ‘Today’ producers after Nicole submitted her name in response to a solicitation.
“You had to text in for a Mother’s Day shout-out,” Nicole said. “I didn’t think they would call back. I thought they would find someone with, like, a sad story. But they called me back.”
Nicole, who has gone through some financial hardship, wanted to thank her mother for her hospitality.
“They asked me, specifically what makes your mom such a special mom,” Nicole said. “I said that she always stuck with me through hard times and everything. She’s just a great mom.”
Dillon works as a controller for an Indianapolis company, operates her own accounting business and does accounting work for several other clients. She often works seven days a week during her busy season, but finds time for boating and her four bichon frises during the summer.
She was interviewed by phone around 9:20 a.m. Friday by ‘Today’ personalities Meredith Vieira, Ann Curry, Natalie Morales and Al Roker. Dillon called herself an avid ‘Today’ watcher.
“Absolutely,” Dillon said. “I love Ann Curry, she’s an amazing person, really sweet. I was really nervous but it was great.”
During the interview, a map of Indiana pinpointing Pendleton was displayed along with a picture of Dillon she submitted to NBC.
On Sunday, the family has planned a Mother’s Day family dinner with three generations of mothers: Dillon, her mother and her daughter.
