What the company does: The GEO Group Inc. is billed on its Web site as “a world leader in the privatized development and/or management of correctional facilities.” The company also provides “a wide range of other diversified services — from home detention and electronic monitoring to the development of medical and mental health facilities.”

National news connection: GEO contracts with U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement to manage the Guantanamo Bay Migrant Operations Center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. GEO provides unarmed custody officers at the facility and manages and operates the center.
