Committee for slots legislation will meet next week

It looks as if House Bill 1583, putting slots machines at the state’s horse racetracks, won’t go to conference committee until next week.
“They haven’t named the conferees from the House or Senate,” said Sen. Tim Lanane, D-Anderson. “The earliest it could be is next Tuesday or Wednesday.
“There are some procedural matters to go through.”
HB 1583 author Trent Van Haaften, D-Mount Vernon, dissented from the Senate’s proposed changes to his bill, which included a reduction in the number of games per track and a $400 million license fee for the tracks. The Senate then passed the revised version.
The conference committee will iron out the differences between the House and Senate and send the final bill back to both for a vote.
