John Bryant, 83, had a great seat in the Wigwam Thursday when Hillary Rodham Clinton visited. But he wasn’t sure how he got it.

He arrived hoping to get Clinton to sign a birthday card for his sister, Nyleptha Roberts who, at 112, is the oldest woman in Tennessee. She’s a big Hillary fan.

Bryant explained that two years ago his sister was at a meeting of Democrats and Republicans and was given a picture of President George W. Bush. Asked if she liked it, Bryant said, his sister, “It’s real nice, but I’d rather it had been Hillary Clinton.”

Bryant, who lives in Anderson, said his sister was still active and works in a library in Sparta.

At the Wigwam, he looked for state Rep. Scott Reske to help carry out his request for the signed birthday card. He found Reske, then one of the ushers pointed to the good seat, and Bryant said he wondered what he was doing there.

Following the rally, Reske said he didn’t get the birthday card delivered to Clinton. Reske said he noticed a woman working for the Clinton campaign who was a page at the Statehouse five years ago. He was going to give the information to her but never saw her again because of the crowd.

“I’m going to keep trying on this,” Reske said.
