1:35 p.m.: Early morning crash injures three

Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash at 8 a.m. today at the intersection of Indiana 37 and County Road 600 South on the Hamilton-Madison county line near Elwood.
Investigating Trooper Dave Poynter stated a 2007 Saturn driven by Carrol Smith, 74, Orestes, was eastbound on County Road 600 South when he failed to yield to a vehicle nort bound on Indiana 37. A 2004 Chevrolet van driven by John Charles, 74, Swayzee, was northbound on Indiana 37 and struck the rear passenger side of the Saturn.
John Charles was transported to Saint John’s Medical Center in Anderson. Carrol Smith and a 14-year-old passenger in the back seat of his vehicle were transported to Elwood’s St. Vincent Mercy Hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. Poynter stated, “All occupants were wearing seat belts which prevented more serious injuries.”
