NOBLESVILLE — A Pennsylvania man was killed Tuesday, after he was ejected from the pickup truck he was driving along Interstate 69.
Hamilton County sheriff’s Deputy Vicky L. Dunbar said David Smith, 69, East Brady, Pa., was driving a 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup northbound near the 11-mile marker at about 3:30 p.m. when the passenger-side rear tire on his truck began to “shred,” causing him to lose control.
The pickup left the roadway and flipped twice, finally coming to a rest in a ditch on the east side of I-69.
Dunbar, department spokesman, said in a news release that Smith was killed on impact. Witnesses told investigators Smith had not been driving erratically before the tire blew, and had been traveling between 65 and 70 mph.
The crash remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department’s Crash Investigation Team.
