For The Herald Bulletin

College Goal Sunday, a program to offer free help to students, parents with financial aid application, will happen locally beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday in Reardon Auditorium on the Anderson University campus.

The program will also be conducted at 35 other sites across Indiana. To find alternate locations, log onto www.collegegoalsunday.org or call toll-free (800) 992-2076.

In order to qualify for financial aid, each applicant must complete the 2008-09 Free Application for Federal Student Aid. With a completed FAFSA to eligible educational institutions nationwide, students could qualify for federal and state grants, loans, scholarships and other financial awards. Students who don’t qualify for grants but who are applying for a college loan must also complete the FAFSA. Completed FAFSAs, must be received at the federal processor by March 10.

Those who should attend the presentation are generally high school seniors and other Indiana students who qualify for undergraduate admission to a college or technical school in 2008 and need financial aid.

Students 23 years of age or younger should attend with their parents or guardians and bring their parent’s completed 2007 IRS 1040 tax return, W-2 forms or other 2007 income, asset and benefits information.

Students who worked last year should also bring their earnings information. Pens and FAFSA on the Web Worksheets will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own FAFSA on the Web Worksheet or FAFSA forms if they choose to paper file.

Anyone completing and submitting the FAFSA at one of the College Goal Sunday’s computer and Internet access sites should bring their U.S. Department of Education personal identification numbers, which can be obtained online at www.pin.ed.gov. The College Goal Sunday Web site provides a list of available sites with Internet access as well as sites offering Spanish interpreters.

For more information on College Goal Sunday, college and career planning, and information on paying for college, (800) 992-2076 or visit www.learnmoreindiana.org. Learn More Indiana is the state’s college and career connection.

College Goal Sunday is sponsored by the Indiana Student Financial Aid Association, State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana, Learn More Indiana and the Twenty-first Century Scholars Program.
