Snowy roads? Call the right department
The Herald Bulletin
The Indiana Department of Transportation is responsible for clearing Interstate 69 and state highways such as Indiana 128 between Indiana 9 and 37, INDOT spokesman Harry Maginity said Wednesday.
However, for example, Indiana 128 turns into County Road 800 North on the east side of Indiana 9 — which becomes the responsibility of the Madison County Highway Department over to 500 East.
Another confusing spot?
The county takes care of a section of Indiana 67 on the southeast side of Anderson.
Inside corporate limits, towns such as Markleville, Edgewood, Pendleton, Ingalls, Chesterfield, Summitville, Frankton and Lapel and cities of Anderson, Elwood and Alexandria are responsible for their own streets, said County Highway Superintendent Scott Harless.
If you’ve got a snow-covered road or subdivision street, wait a day before besieging street departments with phone calls.
However, if you live under county jurisdiction, you can call 646-9240.
Otherwise, try the street department in the area where you live.
David Eicks, acting mayor for Anderson, said that residents can call the Street Department at 648-6445 today if their particular street has been missed by the snowplows.
