2 fires in 15 minutes; no injuries

ANDERSON — Anderson firefighters responded to two separate fires within minutes of one another on Sunday.

At 2:43 p.m., firefighters were called to 131 E. School St. where a salamander heater was being used to thaw frozen pipes. The machine, which runs on kerosene, was placed near the crawl space of the home, according to Greg Reed of the Anderson Fire Department. It heated the siding of the home to the point where the wood siding caught fire. The small fire was mostly extinguished by the homeowner by the time firefighters arrived on scene, he said. No one was hurt.

At 2:58 p.m., firefighters headed to 432 W. Sixth St. where smoke was reported showing from the back porch of a home.

No flames were ever found and firefighters had to pull down the ceiling in order to find the source of the smoke. No one was hurt in the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
