Thanks to Anderson Community Schools board of directors, a request for a monument in honor of Madison Heights High School will finally be placed on the current location of Anderson High School.

As a past student of Madison Heights, I remember the pride that we students felt for our lovely new surroundings when our school doors opened in September of 1956. We dedicated our new yearbook, called The Treasure Chest (how appropriate), to our principal, Mr. Robert E. Collier, for his personal sacrifice in the organization of over 1,500 students. Of course, we’ll never forget our Pirate mascot, who led us in many victorious athletic games through the years. We dedicated our 1958 Treasure Chest to our government teacher, Mr. George Hunt, who, on that first September morning, quoted these words to us: “You cannot disobey the laws of God or man without someday having to pay for it. Retribution will catch up with you.” He taught us the way to live a Christian life. He was a mentor, and friend to many.

How fitting that such a tribute be made in remembrance of our Pirate legacy.
