Letter: Health bill is not government takeover

Move over, Michele Bachmann, Republican Virginia Fox is attempting to be the most ridiculous member of Congress. Fox said that the health care bill will “kill seniors” and just the other day said the health care bill is “more dangerous to Americans than all the terrorists.” It makes you wonder how smart her constituents are. Of course, we have “Mr. No” Mike Pence, who goes right along with this group.

You would think that most people would realize that these and other Republicans want to kill health care reform because they receive so much money to keep the status quo. They say how this bill is a “government takeover” of health care, when they know that only 2 or 3 percent of all Americans are eligible to enroll in a public plan. What the bill will do is bring down costs, keep insurance companies from denying those with pre-existing conditions and lift arbitrary limits on benefits.

Republicans were in control for the past eight years, and never lifted one finger to reduce costs of health care. As usual, all they have to offer is fear. I hope by the time this letter is printed the House of Representatives will have passed a health care bill.

Those of you who have health care provided by your employer better hope this bill passes because the cost of health care raises double digits every year. How long do you think employers can keep paying these outrageous costs? Even AARP endorses this bill.
