Why do right-wingers continue to lie about what’s in the health care bill?

Based on the Oct. 29 Reader’s Viewpoint by Bob Ivy, I would guess that Ivy is a “tea bagger.” Speaking of tea baggers, most of them are biased and will believe anything negative about the president and the Democratic Party.

Politicians are against overhauling the health care system, because they receive millions of dollars from health care providers. For ordinary citizens, it must be plain ignorance. People shouldn’t believe everything they hear. If people want to learn about the bills that are proposed, they should go online. I’m pleased to say that I’ve read them all. Mr. Ivy presented information that he said came from FoxNews.com. Anyone who watches TV knows that Fox News has become an extension of right-wing talk radio, and whomever believes that “junk” should have their brain examined.

President Obama has said repeatedly that there are billions of dollars of waste in the present Medicare program; however, right-wingers have turned that around, saying to seniors that money being taken out (waste) will reduce their benefits (scare tactics).

Mr. Ivy also said there is $10 billion in the bills for UAW workers, to be used to save their retirement benefits. Again, this just isn’t true (Sounds like a union hater to me.) He also stated that the Baucus bill requires the government to spend $6 billion to establish co-ops that would pay for abortions. This is also not true. None of the bills authorize any money for abortions.

I am a salaried retiree, after 31 years of employment, with no health care, and my pension has been turned over to the government.

For those people who believe Medicare and Social Security are bad for America, I suggest they not participate; if they are participating, they should opt out. This whole health care debate has been bastardized by misinformation and lies, and Mr. Ivy is making sure the trend continues.
