I was very encouraged to read in The Herald Bulletin that Anderson Community School Corp. is considering schools with themes. I believe this is more commonly known as magnet schools.

It is a very innovative idea, and one that I would applaud. While they are considering on which areas to concentrate, might I suggest a school that would concentrate on dual credit for college. ACS currently offers several advance placement courses. Dual credit differs from AP courses in that you receive high school credit and college credit simultaneously. There is no cost to students taking dual credit courses taught by a high school teacher.

With Ivy Tech in such close physical proximity to Anderson High School, I think that this is an untapped resource that could benefit our students.

I don’t have any children in the Anderson school system, but I am an Anderson resident. The success or failure of ACS affects us all. I congratulate the administration for thinking out of the box, and wish them only success in their endeavor to improve the quality of public education.
