Published October 21, 2009 08:41 am - I heard on the news a statement by Jim Irsay about the status of Rush Limbaugh’s desire to be a part owner of the St. Louis Rams. I was shocked to hear his statement about not voting for Rush because he could cause potential problems. This statement was made before he has even talked to him.

Letter: Irsay statement influenced by media

I heard on the news a statement by Jim Irsay about the status of Rush Limbaugh’s desire to be a part owner of the St. Louis Rams. I was shocked to hear his statement about not voting for Rush because he could cause potential problems. This statement was made before he has even talked to him.

I live in Anderson and am a strong Colts fan who believes Jim Irsay is one of the top owners in the NFL, if not the top. I am not a Rush Limbaugh fan even though I do listen to him on occasion. However, I believe Jim Irsay and Roger Goodell are letting the media, specifically CNN, influence them with statements attributed to Rush that are not true. Before Jim Irsay, Roger Goodell, and other owners make a judgment about Rush’s qualifications to be an owner, they should talk to him and find out firsthand what he has said and whether he could live within the expectations of the NFL owners.

Undoubtedly, what Jim Irsay and Roger Goodell have said about Rush Limbaugh has strongly biased some players against him without them ever knowing the man himself. I don’t believe Jim Irsay is that kind of a man. I think he got caught up in a situation and said things before he fully knew the whole story. If after talking to Rush, they still feel he would not be a good owner, then fine. But they should not make decisions based on what they hear or read in the media. The media only tell you what they want you to hear, and. sometimes it’s not even true.
