Someone said, “If ignorance is bliss, some Americans must be ecstatic.” Just a few recent examples of ignorance:

Forty-six percent of North Carolinians don’t believe President Obama was born in the United States. Eight percent don’t believe Hawaii is part of the U.S.

Protestors shout down representatives explaining the health-care bill. They know the representatives are wrong — e-mails from Uncle Jack, written by somebody somewhere, said so.

A former Speaker, a vice-presidential candidate, and members of Congress claim health-care proposals contain “death panels,” which will “pull the plug on Grandma.”

TV’s Glenn Beck says President Obama hates white people.

Protestors carry signs depicting the president as Hitler.

Comparing anyone to the evil Nazi regime, except Stalin or Pol Pot, demonstrates ignorance of history or lack of sensibility. As one whose uncle liberated a concentration camp, I think it’s inexcusable.

Parents keep children home from school rather than let them hear the president encourage students to study hard. They’re led by a trio of TV harpies: Monica Crowley said he’ll “indoctrinate our children” like “Chairman Mao did.” Laura Ingraham called it “nonsense” and “creepy.” Michelle Malkin claimed teachers will “urge their kids to write letters to demonize Obamacare opponents.”

Congressman Joe Wilson shouts “You lie” as the president speaks to Congress. Politifact.com and factcheck.org determine Wilson is wrong.

Thomas Jefferson said, “Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government.” We can’t be well-informed if we trust e-mails, blogs, and talking heads instead of legitimate sources.
