Letter: Don’t try to outrun police

June 25, 2009 10:44 pm

Thank you, Herald Bulletin, for running a photo on the newspaper’s front page of Shain E. Arnold.
Although I have had a few speeding tickets in my life (certainly no DWI’s) I have never once thought about trying to “outrun” a police officer (unlike Arnold). I guess Arnold has not heard of cell phones and two-way radios.
Major Brian Bell has a wife and family, and any time someone tries to outrun a police officer, that person puts not only that officer but every pedestrian and innocent driver along that path at risk for serious injury or even death.
Maybe the next traffic offender that wants to avoid jail will think that jail beats the heck out of getting shot twice with a gun and will pull over when a policeman signals him to do that.
Maybe Arnold should not bring a knife (that looks like a gun) to a gun fight. Thanks to all the police officers out there for keeping drunks off our streets and highways.
