What am I missing? Ollie Dixon was indicted for criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. If the four sets of officers had done their jobs, Dixon would not have taken the weapon into the jail cell. In my opinion, the wrong person was indicted; all of those officers should have been, because they put many lives in danger. As big as the weapon was, it’s ridiculous that none of the officers discovered it. If Dixon was intoxicated, as reported, he may not have been aware that he possessed the weapon; he had no intention of going to jail that night. If Dixon is found guilty, we should all be worried. Hopefully, Sheriff Richardson does not approve of the fact that the weapon was missed.
I’ve read John W. Gunter’s viewpoint, and I disagree with it. I agree that Jeff Hardin is an Indiana treasure and loved by all of us. Domestic violence is very serious. It can happen to the best of us, but that doesn’t make it OK.
Hardin has done a lot of good, but he made a mistake. I know the fear he felt, because a member of my family was also a victim of police brutality. Any type of violence against another person is wrong, and so are you, Mr. Gunter. Do you think all 911 calls of this nature should be overlooked?
County police handled this situation as they should have, regardless of those involved. Mr. Gunter, would you have written your article for an unknown citizen? We all feel bad for Jeff Hardin and his family, and wish them well.
