Letter: Don’t allow fear to cloud judgment

After watching members of the Senate and Congress say one after another that they did not want the detainees from Guantanamo Bay in their state, I thought to myself, what a bunch of crap. Our brave soldiers travel to the other side of the world to bring these terrorists to justice only to have politicians turn their backs on them and the justice system. Did these politicians spit in the faces of our troops for political reasons, or are they just cowards?

Keeping these terrorists in prisons outside our borders shows our fear and lack of full commitment to fight terrorism. If we are going to fight terrorism, we must have the guts to house these detainees on U.S. soil. Maybe the creators of this mess, President Bush and Vice President Cheney, can supply some of their land in Texas or Wyoming as terrorist prisons. Holding these detainees here to stand trial is the American way and leaving them in prison without a trial is the old Soviet Union way. We cannot allow fear to cloud our judgment when it comes to justice and doing the right thing. In this time of many troubles all over the world, we need people in Congress who are brave enough to stand up for American principles and not a bunch of political cowards that make things worse by towing a their party’s line.

Let’s turn Guantanamo into a resort where Fox News loyalists can go.
