Sen. Barack Obama has spoken many times in reference to being questioned about why he is running now. “Why now? Why not in four or eight more years?” many have said. In response, he speaks about King’s words, “... the fierce urgency of now,” and reminds us that sometimes it is too late to respond to the need for immediate action on matters so important to turning the trends of our country (and those of the world) around.
But here is another thought that, I believe, applies to the argument of his running for president as being a matter of the “fierce urgency of now.”
What if this is our only chance of having a President Barack Obama? What if part of the “fierce urgency of now” is that this is the only time we know for sure that Barack Obama will run for president?
The “fierce urgency of now,” for me, is that we have Barack Obama now, and only now, for certain. I truly hope we seize this remarkable moment in time.
I’m excited about seeing Obama in person in our very own town at Anderson High School.
