Words & Music Concert a boost to literacy

April 30, 2008 12:35 am

The Madison County Literacy Coalition board of directors would like to thank all those who made the Words & Music Concert a success once again this year. On April 11, we held our third annual concert. The support we received is appreciated beyond words.  Thank you to Jeff Hardin, Dan Daugherty, John Gunter, Carl Erskine, Martha Green, Sharlet South, Mike McCarty, Terry Stephens, Dennis Niccum and his children, Aaron and Casey, for putting on a wonderful show that simply delighted our audience.
Thank you also to Bret Busby, our master of ceremonies; The Herald Bulletin, Thrivent Insurance Co. and the city of Anderson for helping to sponsor this event; St. John’s Lutheran Church for helping us get the word out and sell tickets; and for all those who purchased tickets and contributed additional offerings to support the Literacy Coalition.
The Literacy Coalition’s mission is to raise community awareness concerning the unfortunate low-level reading skills that exists in our community, to train adult volunteers to be tutors and provide other necessary support to The Literacy Center to enable the staff there to achieve their goals.
We are proud of the many volunteer tutors who are working with people who want and need help with their reading skills. If anyone wishes to be a volunteer tutor, please call (765) 641-0117.
