Clemmons finishes basic training

PENDLETON — Air Force Airman Nicholas R. Clemmons graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Clemmons completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate’s degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Stephani Thornton of Pendleton. He is a 2009 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School.

Giselbach graduates from basic training

ELWOOD — Army Pfc. David S. Giselbach has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, Giselbach received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the son of David Giselbach and Kathy Giselbach, both of Elwood. Giselbach is a 2009 graduate of Elwood Community High School.

Hester completes Navy basic training

ANDERSON — Navy Seaman Jubal A. Hester, son of Patricia E. Boots of Anderson, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Hester completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Hester is a 2004 graduate of Anderson High School. He is a 2009 graduate of Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree.

Proffitt finishes combat training

Army National Guard Pvt. April L. Proffitt has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Proffitt studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. She is the daughter of Brad Ormes of Markleville. Proffitt is a 2002 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School, Pendleton.
