NEW CASTLE — Many types of mysteries make their way into the book market. Learn more about mysteries at New Castle-Henry County Public Library at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Mystery authors Phil Dunlap, Kit Ehrman, Tony Perona and Debi Watson will present “Mysteries: Something for Everyone” in the library’s auditorium. There is no charge to attend this event, which is part of “The Big Read: Henry County Reads ‘The Maltese Falcon.’ ”

Those who attend will get a glimpse into the mystery genre and its array of sub-genres and cross-genres including historical, religious, and sports.

All of the authors of this event are part of the Speed City Indiana Sisters in Crime Chapter.

Phil Dunlap is a lifelong fan of western novels, movies, and anything of a western history nature.

Avalon Books recently published his fourth novel, “Blood on the Rimrock,” the third in the Piedmont Kelly series. In this book, U.S. Marshal Piedmont Kelly is out to solve the murder of a man killed while sharing a campsite with the marshal. Dunlap plans to release the fourth Piedmont Kelly novel, “Ambush Creek,” in August 2010.

Kit Ehrman has worked both in government and the horse industry. Eventually, Ehrman combined her love of horses and mysteries by penning the award-winning, equine-oriented mystery series featuring barn manager and amateur sleuth Steve Cline. Published by Poisoned Pen Press, the series has received outstanding reviews in The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Booklist, Kirkus, The Denver Post and the Chicago Tribune among others.

Tony Perona is both a business writer and a mystery novel writer. His latest book “Saintly Remains” will be released in March 2010 by Five Star. Perona has also written “Second Advent” and “Angels Whisper.” All three books are part of a series revolving around Nick Bertetto, a stay-at-home dad and former investigative reporter who has a knack for solving mysteries involving a supernatural element. In addition to mystery novels, Perona writes short stories and has written a screenplay called “The Final Mayan Prophesy.”

Debi Watson is a certified family nurse practitioner. She has practiced in diverse areas — surgery, family practice and free clinics — but her favorite setting was the county jail.

She likes to say that blood, guts, weapons and off-beat characters make her a happy girl. Currently she is a contributing editor to Shore Magazine. Her recently published short stories appear in the anthology, “Racing Can Be Murder,” and Shore Magazine. She is working on her novel “Curing Evil.”
