Aerospace inventor wows students

ANDERSON­ — “You don’t see something like that every day,” seventh-grader Tristan Dixon said Tuesday, after he and his classmates got a firsthand look at the future. In this case, it was the Vertiscooter. The gasoline-powered personal hovercraft was one of a handful of cutting-edge inventions that Anderson entrepreneur Pete Bitar brought to demonstrate to students of Anderson Preparatory Academy on their aerospace day.

  • Plans set for first H1N1 clinic Wednesday
    ANDERSON — More vaccine against the H1N1 flu strain keeps arriving in Madison County, expanding the reach of public vaccinations that will begin Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Hoosier Park.

  • Pendleton wrestling club plans cornhole tournament
    PENDLETON — The annual Arabian Wrestling Club Cornhole Tournament is Saturday. Registration will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in the Pendleton Heights High School auxiliary gym. Tournament play will begin at 11 a.m. Team entry fee is $20. Grand prize is $100. There is also a $50 prize to the highest placing, non-winning student team. There will be a silent auction for a Colts-themed cornhole set.

    ANDERSON­ — K.D. Williams had coins and a worksheet in front of him. The 8-year-old student from 29th Street Elementary was learning how to make change. In a way, so was everyone else at a recent open house for an after-school program at the Sherman Street Church of God.
