ANDERSON, Ind. — Residents of the Mustin subdivision awoke Monday morning to find the remains of what appears to be a mid-morning vandalism spree.

Jerry Savage, a resident in the 200 block of South Mustin Drive, found the front and back windows of his white Geo Tracker busted out.

Lying next to the vehicle were the heavy wooden lawn chairs he’d placed outside in hopes of selling them to a passing neighbor.

Breaks along the leg of a table near the vehicle indicate that vandals used the lawn furniture to break the windshield and back window of his vehicle.

Savage thought it was an isolated incident until a neighbor stopped by Monday morning and said another resident’s mailbox had been knocked from its post.

Savage rode his bicycle around the neighborhood to survey the damage to other homes and found that a solar light in one yard had been kicked into the roadway.

Further down the block, Savage found that two decorative lamps knocked from their positions atop stone posts at the end of another neighbor’s driveway.

A newspaper carrier for The Herald Bulletin who asked to remain unnamed said she was the first to discover the vandalism at about 3 a.m. Monday while delivering newspapers.

The carrier reported that vandals had taken road construction barriers from one section of the neighborhood and used them to block traffic to South Mustin Drive.

They’d also taken decorative stones from a resident’s lawn and placed them in the road, creating a dangerous hazard for drivers.

A police report filed by the responding officer indicated that police moved the stones and road barriers back in place to avoid causing traffic problems.

The report also said that a mailbox used for newspaper deliveries was damaged in the 100 block of South Mustin Drive.

Although the damage was widespread, the Savages experienced the most serious damage.

Despite this, Savage does not believe he was targeted for personal reasons. “I think it’s just random.”

Savage believes the vandals were likely teenagers.
