AT THE LIBRARY: Times are a changin’ at library

By Susan Eldridge

Do you ever wish you had a list of every book you’ve read? I do, when someone asks me, “Have you read …..?” I always have to stop and think, “yes, I think I did.” Well, the Anderson Public Library is going to fix that problem for me and for all of you other absent-minded readers.

Starting Wednesday, May 14, you will start seeing some changes in the library. One thing you will be able to do is access your item history, so you (and I) won’t have to remember that we already read a book after we’ve checked it out and started reading it again. By May 21, you will also be able to self-check your items out from the library. This will be nice for the days you just don’t feel like talking to a human! And that’s not all, kids will also benefit from these changing times with a new children’s catalog. They will be able to access over 29,000 sites that focus on fun and education under the watchful eye of a kid-protected monitor.

These new changes are due to a new system called TLC that is touted as the fastest growing automation system in the world. We are excited about bringing you these improvements and can’t wait to see them in action. But, there is a catch. In order for us to train our employees and get the new system up and running we have to close the library for two days. On Monday and Tuesday, the library will be closed. This also means no materials will be due that day, so just look at it as an extra perk from the library.

We appreciate your patience and hope that you enjoy these new additions to the library. If you like them or if you don’t, take the time to drop us a note on what you think, we love to hear what you have to say.
