PENDLETON, Ind. — Madison County Superior Court 5 Judge Thomas Clem was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in an apparent hit-and-run accident Monday evening.
Clem's wife, Carla, said the judge escaped without serious injury and was treated by emergency room physicians soon after the accident.
Clem typically rides his bike near his Pendleton home and was riding with the flow of traffic when he was struck by a vehicle from behind at about 5 p.m. Monday, she said.
A passing motorist found Clem in the roadway immediately after the accident and brought him home where it was later determined that he needed to be checked out by doctors.
“Nothing’s broken, that they can see,” Carla Clem said Tuesday.
Clem is absent from court as he recovers from his injuries.
