ANDERSON — Madison County sheriff’s officials were investigating a shooting following a police pursuit Saturday night.
Officers were called to a trailer park not far from the intersection of county roads 150 South and 67 at about 9:30 p.m., after a deputy reported shots fired to dispatchers, said Sheriff Ron Richardson. A medical helicopter was called to the scene.
According to a source, Shain Arnold of Anderson was wounded in both legs and flown to an Indianapolis hospital. His condition was unknown, but the source said the wounds did not appear to be life threatening.
Details of the events were sketchy late Saturday as investigators and sheriff’s officials determined what exactly took place. The officer who reportedly shot Arnold was Major Brian Bell of the sheriff's department.
“The officer is OK,” Richardson said. “The suspect has been shot.”
The incident reportedly began near Bob Evans Restaurant on Scatterfield Road, where Arnold was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident. Arnold was then chased by Anderson Police Department officers to the trailer park near Lucy's Diner, where he allegedly waved a weapon at officers.
The Madison County Emergency Management Agency closed several roads to traffic shortly after the incident was reported. County officials said that the investigation will be continued by the Indiana State Police.
