    ANDERSON — Faculty, staff, parents and students in favor for retaining two high schools with grades 7-12 in Anderson Community Schools will gather for a forum next week before the school board decides on whether the city will have one or two high schools.

    ANDERSON, Ind. -- Thomas Jackson, a longtime youth mentor who started the group Youth Need Prime Time and harbored political ambitions, has died. Jackson was a youth pastor at Resurrection Temple Church and a General Motors Corp. retiree. In recent years, he also served as a Republican recount commissioner on local elections.

  • Purdue researcher decorated for frying foods without oil
    WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Purdue University food researcher who helped develop an oven that fries food without oil has won the school's Sharvelle Award. Kevin Keener is an associate professor in Purdue's Department of Food Science whose research includes innovative food processing technologies.

  • Tax bill surprise: bills went up, not down
    ANDERSON — John Hendrix was pleased in 2008 when his tax bill dropped by nearly $1,000 — but his luck quickly ran out.
    Hendrix recently received his new tax bill to find that the amount had jumped back up to its original 2007 bill.
    In 2008, Hendrix’s bill was $1,329. For 2009, the bill jumped to $2,226.

  • Indiana soldier 'savoring life' after Fort Hood shooting
    LAFAYETTE, Ind. — An Indiana soldier stationed at Fort Hood says he is savoring life since being wounded in the mass shootings at the Texas base that left 13 dead and wounded 30 others. Army Cpl. Nathan Hewitt of Lafayette was shot in the calf and hip and has started physical therapy.

  • Deer hunter shot near Rockfield
    ROCKFIELD, Ind. — Authorities say a man was hospitalized after being shot while deer hunting over the weekend in northern Indiana. The Carroll County Sheriff's Department says 42-year-old Joe Irwin of Lafayette was shot in the abdomen Sunday evening while hunting with another man near the community of Rockfield about 25 miles northeast of Lafayette.

  • Indiana raised $306 million worth of turkeys in 2008
    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Looking for a local twist for your Thanksgiving meal? It should be no problem to get an Indiana turkey. The Indiana Business Research Center says Indiana raised 14.5 million turkeys valued at $306 million in 2008. That's nearly 520 million pounds of turkey
